Our Mission
To strengthen communities by supporting charitable organizations that improve the health, well-being, and future success of individuals and families in Central Virginia.
What a corporate foundation is, and why this one exists
A corporate foundation is a separate charitable organization, funded by a company or group of companies, that directs money toward causes independent of the business’s own operations. RMT Cares Foundation is the charitable arm of the RMT family of companies — a general contractor, a real estate investment firm, and a private lender under common ownership in Central Virginia. The Foundation is a distinct legal entity from all three, funded primarily by their annual contributions.
The belief behind it
RMT Cares Foundation was created from a stated belief: successful businesses have a responsibility to give back. That belief did not start with the Foundation. RMT Construction has worked with Habitat for Humanity, CARITAS, Better Housing Coalition, and Rebuilding Together for years, building housing and volunteering alongside them. The Foundation formalizes that pattern — giving it a governance structure, a budget, and public accountability — rather than inventing a new mission.
Why it’s structured this way
Funding a foundation from affiliated businesses, rather than the businesses giving directly, creates a centralized, disclosed process for charitable decisions — with a named board, published grants, and annual filings — instead of ad hoc giving with no public record. See Governance & Financials for how that accountability works in practice.
